Boss DR 770 Drum machine (Updated August 2010)
This is a handy little box with pretty good sounds. I've
used a lot of drum machines from the Linn to the Alesis
and back. Zoom, the old boss machines (tr808) - which became retro hip. (as in hop), and so on. The Dr Rhythm is techno oriented and
has a lot of affected sounds. Clangy and boomy and so on. But - the
clean samples are nice, and usable. I use it for writing and sometimes a track
makes it on to a finished part. For an all around writer's tool, its just fine, and decent for the money. Boss always knew
how to make a drum machine and this is no exception. I don' like the midi
implementation too much. I won't go into it but I've had frustrating
times.
Don't expect fancy. Expect clean sounds. The reverbs are
nice. The programming is ok - for my money about the same as the Alesis hr16 or sr 16. Songs and patterns. Its got its
little quirks but after a while you can move fast. A nice little drum machine
worth the money. Tedrank ****. Cheap, does a thing well.
