Apt/Holman or Apt Holman preamp.

This was an audiophile unit made about 1980 by Tom Holman in Boston. You can get these things for 250, and their price in the late 70's was 350. Not much depreciation really.

The big deal on these is the sound. Its fabulous. As good as any pre I've heard including the pre's in some very good recording consoles. Fast, sweet and detailed. Amazing deal for the money. The EQ sounds great - and it should - it’s discrete (I think), and  hand built by a guy who is revered in the hi fi community according to some stuff I read on it. The roll-off point on the bass is LOW - and you have a choice of curves. If I had blind tested this I would have priced it at two grand. Now days you can buy better pre-'s for 2 grand but not much better… because, you can't get much better. Holman was known for his phono inputs - I didn't test them but if that was the great feature then they must be pretty good.  I use it to drive my tracking monitors and mixing monitors. Its rack mount and has two pre outs so I can drive two systems. Wow. Tedrank *****.
